Some grape varieties are inseparable from the places that made them famous. Carménère belongs to Chile. Malbec belongs to Argentina. Pinotage belongs to South Africa. Although each variety has European origins, their modern identities were shaped elsewhere. Understanding these grapes is largely about recognizing their signature country, structure and distinctive aromas.
