Merlot: The Art of Balance

The Idea
If Cabernet Sauvignon is often associated with structure, Merlot is associated with generosity. It produces wines that are approachable, fruit-driven and often softer in texture than many other major red grape varieties. This does not mean Merlot lacks complexity. At its best, it combines ripe fruit, balance and elegance, producing some of the world’s most celebrated red wines. Its greatest strength may be its versatility — Merlot can succeed both as a single-variety wine and as an essential component in some of the wine world’s most famous blends.
