Greece is a hot Mediterranean wine country shaped by elevation, surrounding seas and cooling winds. Together, these influences temper the heat, allowing indigenous grape varieties to produce wines that combine ripeness with remarkable freshness and character.

Climate & Viticulture

Predominantly hot Mediterranean climate; altitude, nearby seas and local winds create cooler microclimates and extend the growing season. The principal challenges are summer drought and strong winds, particularly on the islands. Signature grape varieties include Xinomavro, Agiorgitiko and Assyrtiko.

Cool northern mountains (Xinomavro) → altitude-driven Peloponnese (Agiorgitiko) → wind-sculpted Aegean islands (Assyrtiko).
